We've had a spot of sun recently so we thought it was time to bring out the hammock and ice cream. We made that hammock a few years ago when my grandparents were visiting from africa. Don't you just love the coolness of ice cream? Well, I do. But when it comes to ice cream flavours I tend to be rather fussy. I like chockolate and vanilla, no lemon or bluberry or odd combinations for me! Isn't it interesting how everybody likes different things? I suppose thats a good thing. The other day I found out that everybody sees a different nuance of every colour. I could be looking at a particular pink flower and think its a bright pink and my brother, looking at the same flower, could find it to be more of a purply pink. I suppose its a lot about perseptions as well as comparisons. Interesting. Anyway, back to ice creams! Meeting somebody who doesnt like ice cream just hurts. For some reason I just think that its really sad! They dont know what joys they are missing out on! Oh well, more for me i guess. I dont intend to dwell any further on such miserable thoughts, I've got ice cream to eat! :D

A wildlife photographer called Larsh invited my mother and me to go and sleep in two tiny little tents on a marsh. Of course we accepted! Not only is sleeping on a marsh a huge adventure in itself but in this particular marsh a great surprise awaits you early in the morning. In the spring a kind of mating dance or ritual is performed by black grouse. Black grouse are medium to large birds and I highly recommend looking up what they sound like. Lying in these small hides while its still dark listening to the magical calls of a few males echoing all around you. I repeat: Magical. Thats the only word for it. It was an amazing experiance, however I think I will wait several years before I go back - just long enough for the momory of freezing half to death to fade from my mind!
The photos of the birds are not mine, they are Larsh's. The black bird is the male, the brown is female. Simply the best. When its too wet to make an outdoor fire and you have easter nails and don't feel like covering them in charchoal. This is the solution. Enjoy!
Not being at school isnt a reason not to try (even if your bed is highly comfortable, trust me it will wait for you!). Enjoy what you are doing, it will make life so much easier. Look out the window, if you can see blue sky then take a walk! Listen to the birds or play your favorite song. I recomend that you listen to "The sun is shining". Hang in there, I hope you have a great day :)
I stayed with a few friends in a summer cotage for two nights this summer. It was in the middle of no where right by a lake surrounded by a forest full of the biggest bluberies ever. The reflections in the water were wonderfull and the fires that we made in the evening lit up the night. We played games and told stories and laughed so much.
This year my birthday present was rather different. I got a lot of odd lumpy looking presents and at the end of the line of weirdly wrapped gifts was an eggcarton. Real live chicken eggs and an incubator to put them in! I was sooo excited that I could hardly wait the thirty days until they hatched. Unfortunatly the first lot didnt work but of course we didnt give up there. We tried again and were sucsessfull to say the least. Who new how much work it would be to look after 8 crazy baby chicks? We watched them hatch and it was such a special experiance. They came out looking quite odd and had to be dried out in the incubator before we could move them to their bigger home. They grew so fast, it was quite unbelievable! They were so curious about everything around them and all they wanted to do was explore... well almost all, the first two days they just ate and slept. They didnt sleep for longer than five minutes but they also never went more than five minutes before another napp. I found it amusing that they all seemed to be in perfect sink, when one slept they all slept.
Midsummer, the longest day of the year... yet it almost always rains on that special day in Sweden... My mother has started a tradition of taking pictures of us with strawberries. This year we happened to be at a marvelous outdoor skatepark. Last year we had a midsummer adventure and built our own raft and then went camping with it. The moskitos where dreadfull but it was still extremely fun.
My family and I went on a trip up into the arktic circle with some southafrican friends. We experiensed a true swedish witer including a snow blizard on our first night there!! These are the warm huts we stayed in, they were so cozy and utterly delightful and we really couldnt have asked for better accomodation. Each hut was small yet had everything we needed including perfect kitchens, extra blankets, a sauna and a small heater made to look and sound like a miniture fireplace. The view was amazing no matter where you looked and the sunrises and sunsets where simply stunning. We could not have been happier or more excited as we played in the 2 meter deep snow, skied, built snowmen and had snowfights before comming in to warm up an drink hot chockolate in the sauna.
